Global apparel retailer Uniqlo recently participated in a beach clean-up activity in conjunction with its Join: The Power of Clothing campaign.

This campaign by Uniqlo aims to reduce ocean garbage while raising awareness among customers and inspiring action to keep our waterways clean.

In an effort to preserve local marine biodiversity, Uniqlo partnered with Penang Green Council (PGC), a local environmental non-profit organisation, and other corporate partners for a beach clean-up activity in Taman Bungah, Penang on October 3, 2023.

In conjunction with World Clean Up Day, the beach clean-up activity covered five different coastal areas and saw the dedicated efforts of 350 volunteers clean up a total of 374 kgs of waste on the local coastline.

“Ocean pollution poses threats not only to marine life but also to human well-being. We are delighted to collaborate with Penang Green Council, an organisation dedicated to addressing these concerns.

"Collaborations like this one support our commitment to protecting marine biodiversity and serve as an inspiration for more Malaysians to join us in protecting our oceans,” said Evelyn Tan, Sustainability Director of Uniqlo Malaysia.

“It’s encouraging to witness global companies like Uniqlo participating in activities that help to protect the environment.

"We believe that these initiatives can signify the significance of conserving the environment, not only for our immediate benefit but also for the well-being of future generations.

"With the participation of various stakeholders and volunteers today, we were able to create an impact on Mother Earth as well as increasing awareness and inspiring more citizens on the need to take care of our planet,” said Josephine Tan, General Manager of Penang Green Council.

The beach clean-up reflects Uniqlo's dedication to environmental conservation and serves as an opportunity to educate participants about the importance of preserving pristine oceans and coastal areas. - KitaReporters/Media Release
